Our stay here in Palheiro Village has been excellent and our villa was absolutely beautiful - we cannot fault it at all! The facilities were brilliant and easy to get to. Amr was so helpful, always willing to help us out and we couldn't ask for more from him. The view was incredible - the beautiful ocean, the view of Funchal lit up at night, and the fresh air! Everywhere around our villa was so clean - the swimming pool area was clearly cared for and the shower area was in great conditions. Although the weather didn't maintain great throughout our week here, the villa definately made up for it; being able to stay in when it was raining, as there is plenty of space in the villa. Also, the cleaners were very nice too. We spent our Christmas lunch eating at the fantastic Casa Velha Hotel which was delicious and the service of the staff was brilliant. We have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here, gaining a pleasurable experience and would definately recommend this to others. We would also love to come here again, in the summer time. We thank you once again and hope to see you again soon. Obrigado!

We too have really enjoyed staying in this superbly appointed apartment. It has been real 5* luxury for us - and it needed to be, as we have spent most of our 5 days in Madeira sheltering from virtually incessant rain. We have seen glimpses of what we are told is a fantastic view through the mist and clouds. But we have not been able to take advantage of the pool area or even venture out onto the balcony. We have drunk copious amounts of Madeira wine whilst huddled indoors - it is quite strong isn't it? Just as well we didn't go out onto the balcony! Despite all this we loved Madeira and maybe back, but NOT in December.

Had a wonderful week's stay here. The apartment is lovely and many thanks to the maids and to Amr for looking after us. The weather has been absolutely beautiful every day. If you like walking, would recommend the walk through the mountains from Boca da Corrida to Encumeada for stunning views. Also the walk at Baia d'Abra, São Lourenço, (take your swimming gear for a dip in the sea halfway round)! Our best find for dining out was Olives on the Rua da Queimada de Cima. The tuna was fantastic! The waiters were so friendly. We also enjoyed sitting at the Grand Café, Golden Gate, for wonderful coffee, delicious cakes and people watching. We used the local bus service - the number 38 stops just by the gate and drops you off at the seafront. You can buy a 5 day pass at the Kiosk on the front for 20€ - saves a fortune in taxis! Visit the market and try 8 different types of marajuca (passion fruit) and buy roasted chestnuts on the seafront, and the local bread with garlic butter - not that we are obsessed by food! A perfect week, loved every minute.

Palheiro Village is said to be the best quality development on the island and after staying here we believe it. Fantastic views, great facilities and everyone at the village has been extremely friendly and helpful. The west tour was a good introduction to the island (and their driving). If you are walkers, the Rabaçal walks are stunning. We used Madeira-Seekers who were good but not punctual. One week is not enough!
Restaurants:
1. Gaviao Novo, in the old town, authentic Portuguese, great chef, best veg all week, have the espada with banana.
2. E Pra Picanha, opposite the Savoy, brazilian restaurant, fun waiters, have the picanha!
Locally in Garajau, blue elephant Indian restaurant - the takeaway worked for us!

Very nice apartment, truly enjoyable. But not much of a view during our time here: We never knew that one of the main seasons for Madeira to receive water was in the first week of October! so the intended walking holiday was largely turned into one of car excursions - avoiding the story, misty mountains, of course. Thank God Madeira has got a North Coast in the shade of those mountains and thus still a bit sunny.

Lovely well appointed apartment, great dining al fresco looking out over the Atlantic towards Alaska! Try a walk up to the golf clubhouse for a cardiac workout. We also enjoyed "our" 25m private pool, again with fantastic views. We had a great trip dolphin watching. We used "Rota dos Cetáçeos" who are a very professional and quality outfit. We also had the bonus of seeing a 15m tropical whale at close quarters.

Very much enjoyed our stay. The facilities and unit were well appreciated. The golf course was frequently used and the challenges of the course, and the weather, kept it interesting. The proximity of the unit and the ease from which travel to other sites in town and around the island was very convenient. As a self-catering unit, it would have been nice to have more supplies for basic cooking (particularly those not likely consumed over a couple of weeks - proper oil, salt and pepper, sugar, the likes). Fantastic facilities within the 'village' where golf course, pool and clubhouse were well used, despite some poor weather at the beginning of our holiday! Great service, help and advice from Amr. We found some very good restaurants (meal at the Casino very poor though!) Many interesting places to visit (the best day was trip to Porto Santo) but not enough time to see as much we would have liked.

It was a cold winter day when we were looking for an attractive golf club in a warmer region - thus we found Palheiro golf and by chance the possibility to rent apt 17, the "apartment with stunning sea view". Well, reality met our high expectations. This goes for Palheiro golf, Palheiro village as well as wonderful Madeira island. It is a pity - now that we find our way back from Funchal (down town) to Palheiro without too many detours we have to fly back home. But there will be other cold, snowy days in Switzerland - and then we will remember Palheiro village. And next time we will find the place without GPS! Sadly enough we have now to leave our`"Madeira home", but we take with us many, many wonderful memories. Muy obrigado!

Having searched the internet we found the Palheiro Village website - the photos, description and feedback looked fabulous and they've given a true reflection of an excellent apartment in a great location. The apartment is extremely comfortable and has everything you need. The swimming pool is in an excellent location and we were very pleased it was heated! We've had a great week exploring the island. The walks in the centre are best done in the morning before the rain clouds form. We thoroughly enjoyed two walks from Encumeada along Levada do Norte and the Levada do Rabaçal. The walk to Monte as described in the Palheiro leaflet was also enjoyable but a little longer than 4kms! The caves at São Vincente are a good rainy day activity. Finally, thank you to Amr and the staff who cleaned our apartment. We would certainly recommend Palheiro Village to anyone coming to Madeira on holiday. Muito obrigado!

A truly magnificent location, the apartment decorated to the highest specification, colour scheme fabulous, most tasteful. I came across the award winning Palheiro Village development by accident when I was desperately trying to find suitable accommodation for 3 couples just a few hours before our flight. No problemmo - Amr Ashour the Assistant Property Manager gave me all the help I needed when he got my first email. He sent details of 2 properties that were available, told me what facilities were on the development, and what our villa would contain and when our car hire fell through - he even picked us all up at the airport and had a local firm bring us a people carrier once we had settled in. I knew we were destined to be well looked after. Number 42 was just opposite the office and the communal pool and the views the property had were stupendous. We could see all of Funchal marina and right over to The Cliff Bay hotel where we stayed last time. The development is really pretty, the architecture and the tiled roofs really stand out against the rather dreary, samey architecture of a lot of the other private houses and villas on the island and the properties are set out in attractive layers up little windy roads. The decor is just lovely, the comfort is exceptional (we all said how well we had slept), we kept our binoculars to hand and spent a lot of time trying to spot whales, dolphins and buzzards. There was an ensuite bedroom on the top floor, two bedrooms and a double shower (with toilet, washbasin and bidet) on the 2nd floor and a separate toilet, large open plan living room, dining room, kitchen and terrace on the bottom floor. If you look at the last photographs on this link you will get a good idea of the quality of the place.

The boys (not one a day over 60!) had a swim in the heated communal pool every morning and said it was warm enough and the surrounding space is once again - just lovely, I need a thesaurus to give me some new superlatives! We were about 20 minutes drive from the airport, 10 minutes from Funchal and only 5 minutes from some lovely local restaurants. If I get time I will do a separate trip report about that aspect of the trip on the Funchal forum.

with some stunning photographs and more information than I could hope to give you - so I really don't feel the need to write much more - I just feel lucky that I found it right at the last minute as it really was perfect for us. My friends think I am a genius but really it was just serendipitous. Ha ha - that thesaurus came in handy!
Oh, one last thing, the estate is owned by the famous Blandy family, John Blandy buying it in 1855 and the family are still hands on - in fact Louisa Blandy (add some more hyphens) works in the office which I thought was such a special touch. You will also get discounts on all things Blandy. So I would like to thank Louisa and her family, Amr, the cheerful cleaners, the British owner of number 42 and the friendly Madeiran people for giving us such a warm welcome. I have got a feeling we will be back.

Well, where do you start from? The views, golf course, Casa Velha, restaurant, the exceptional helpful staff or the beautiful communal swimming pool. It was all magnificent, from the time we were collected from the airport to the day we left. The apartment was absolutely stunning, great modern interior, all the appliances you would need in your home. You also feel very secure in the Palheiro Village as there is always a 24hr guard at the entrance. Our apartment was cleaned 2-3 times a week and it was cleaned to the highest level with care and consideration for your own goods. A big thank you to the cleaners. I would also like to express a special thank you to Amr, he was a great help to us, whether it was directions, restaurant suggestions, festival dates and even car hire, we had his number even when he finished work incase of anything we needed to know. What a great feeling. All the staff were great and very helpful, any question you had, they tried so hard to answer it for you. Recommended to anyone who would love to visit a place so tranquil. What a great time had by all. Thank you!

The apartment and complex was truly awesome, with great facilities, amazing views and within range of Funchal's old town, where there really are some great little restaurants. ("Riso" our favorite). The staff are very helpful and friendly and were able to recommend great activities to do - sailing, fishing, golfing! As well as a bit of gambling at the casino. The restaurant at the club house is a treat after a hot round of 18, serving some fine dishes with the local "brew" Coral on tap - delicious!

We are very impressed with the development - the high specification of the fittings and furnishings in the apartment and the superb setting. The golf course, communal swimming pool, tennis court and picturesque Palheiro gardens provide entertainment for all the family. There are also excellent restaurants at the golf course (with stunning views over Funchal) and at the Casa Velha hotel. The staff are without exception, friendly and helpful - nothing is too much trouble. A real `home from home´.
The perfect place for a relaxing holiday but with plenty to do and see if you feel up to it. Highly recommended.

Dear Owners, we really loved our stay in your apartment. The latter is well furnished and nice paintings add to the overall, making it even more comfortable. The view over Funchal is dramatically picturesque and it was great to stay outside for tea on sunny days. Regarding the Palheiro Village service, we found it full of quality, although we would have liked more services to be added (food deli, open spa, pool bar more furnished). Anyhow, our 10 days stay has been delightful and we would love to come back.

It was a cold winter day when we were looking for an attractive golf club in a warmer region - then we found Palheiro Golf and by chance the possibility to rent Apt 17, the 'apartment with stunning sea view'. Well, reality met our high expectations. This goes for Palheiro Golf, Palheiro Village as well as wonderful Madeira island. It is a pity - now that we find our way back from Funchal (down town) to Palheiro without too many detours we have to fly back home. But there will be other cold, snowy days in Switzerland - and then we will remember Palheiro Village. And next time we will find the place without GPS! Sadly enough we have now to leave our 'Madeira home', but we take with us many, many wonderful memories. Muito obrigado!
